Library Ethics

One of the most controversial ethical arguments today is whether the United States of America’s government should be allowed to remove information from the internet if it could be used by terrorists.  This is known as a form of internet censorship and could be deemed unconstitutional or vital to national security depending on the viewpoint.  Both the preservation of information and the safety of American citizens is important, but should the knowledge be sacrificed to ensure American lives.  Or should this information be red flagged but still made available.  Is this a violation of personnel freedom, should all types of information be accessible to anyone? The first viewpoint is that in order to save innocent lives, every possible measure should be taken even if it means the exclusion of certain types of information.  Not all information is necessary for all citizens to live their lives.  Especially knowledge that could be used for dangerous purpose...

Library News

The goal of the library is always changing.  More is demanded and the needs of different types of individuals such as researchers and students are also evolving.  These new developments ensure that in order for the library to maintain its usefulness, it (the library) must adapt before it is replaced by some other means of acquiring information.  One way that this can be done is through collaboration and communication between the library and other institutions.  Institutions such as higher-learning facilities, that concentrate on research, learning, and teaching.  These collaborations will lead to more innovations that are vital to the growth and expansion of the library.   Innovations such as information management computer programs that are more efficient and faster, increasing the enjoyment of the research process.  Research is necessary in today’s world, whether you’re a student, businessman, or criminal investigator as well as many other occup...

Library Review

Many innovations are always being invented that help the preservation of information in the modern world.  One such innovation is known as cloud computing.  Cloud computing is the practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer.  With cloud computing, libraries now have another method of storing information for the public to use. Many uses for cloud-based systems are applicable for the modern day library.  Such as instant data storage and more efficient information transference.  Most of what libraries do can be done in the cloud, this does not mean however that eliminating libraries should be a consideration.  Only that a refit of how things are done should be realized.   There are advantages and disadvantages of the cloud.  One advantage is greater efficiency because servers are typically shard in the environment used by the cl...

The Librarian

In this age of information, the librarian is perhaps the most important profession in modern society.  With the relatively recent innovations in the field of information, someone is needed to provide these services to the public.  These individuals are known as librarians, which is essentially someone who makes information available to other people in many different types of mediums.  Mediums such as libraries, classrooms, archives, and museums.  The sharing of information is vital in today’s world, individuals’ have to exchange knowledge so that the world can function.  Without information, ignorance and archaic would expand and cause stagnation throughout not only the country but the world.  The role of the librarian is to oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the library.  The library is a place that processes different types of collected information.  Collected information such as but not limited to:  books, manuscript...
